Where it is

Missouri's main areas are along the Missouri river around Hermann, and the Ozark Mountain and Augusta AVAs. Augusta, established in 1980, was the first American Viticultural Area.

History

German immigrants founded Hermann in the 1830s, and before Prohibition Missouri was one of the largest producers in the United States.

Grapes and wines

Norton, a native American grape, makes dark red wine. Hybrid grapes such as Vidal Blanc, Chambourcin and Vignoles are common.
