Where it is

Northland is the northern tip of the North Island, around the Bay of Islands and Kerikeri. Samuel Marsden planted vines at Kerikeri in 1819.

Land and climate

Subtropical, humid and mild. Rain at harvest and disease pressure are challenges.

Grapes and wines

Chardonnay, Syrah and Pinot Gris are grown, and some hybrid grapes. Production is small and the wines are mostly sold locally.
