Where it is

Nelson is at the top of the South Island, west of Marlborough, near Tasman Bay and Abel Tasman National Park.

Land and climate

Sunny and mild, with more rain than Marlborough. Soils range from clay to gravel, and the mountains shelter the area.

Grapes and wines

Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Riesling are all grown. Many of the producers are small, and the region has a strong craft food and arts culture.
