Where it is

Valdeorras is in the province of Ourense in the east of Galicia, along the Sil river, on the border with Castilla y León.

Land and climate

It is drier and sunnier than coastal Galicia, with some Atlantic influence. The vineyards sit on slate and granite soils, mainly on terraces.

Grapes and wines

Godello was nearly lost in the twentieth century and has since been replanted. It makes full, mineral whites that can age. Mencía produces fresh, light reds.
