Where it is

Toro is in Zamora province in Castilla y León, on the Duero river, near the town of Toro.

Land and climate

A continental climate with hot, dry summers, cold winters and little rain. Vines are at 600 to 750 m on sandy and clay soils, and some very old vines remain.

Grapes and wines

Tinta de Toro, the local version of Tempranillo, produces dark, powerful, high-alcohol reds. Garnacha is the second red, and Malvasía and Verdejo make a small amount of white.
