Where it is

Rueda is in the provinces of Valladolid, Segovia and Ávila in Castilla y León, near the Duero river, west of Valladolid.

Land and climate

The vineyards are around 700 to 800 m and have hot days and cold nights. Stones and gravel in the soil retain heat. The old bush vines survive thanks to the sandy soils that did not suffer from phylloxera.

Grapes and wines

Verdejo is the main grape and produces fresh, herbal white wine. Rueda Verdejo must contain at least 85 per cent Verdejo, Rueda Sauvignon at least 85 per cent Sauvignon Blanc, and Rueda Espumoso is a sparkling version.
