Where it is

Podișul Transilvaniei occupies the central plateau of Romania, enclosed by the Carpathian arc, and includes Târnave, Alba Iulia, Aiud, Lechința and Sebeș-Apold.

Land and climate

Cooler than the south, with high rainfall. The vineyards face south and east, at 200 to 500 m, to catch the sun.

Grapes and wines

This is Romania's main white-wine region, with Fetească Albă and Regală, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Traminer and Muscat Ottonel. Sparkling wine is also made, and Pinot Noir is grown for reds.
