Where it is

Dobrogea (Dealurile Dobrogei) is in south-eastern Romania, between the Danube and the Black Sea. It includes Murfatlar, Istria and Sarica Niculițel.

History

The Greeks founded colonies on the Black Sea coast from the seventh century BC, including Histria, and are thought to have brought vines.

Grapes and wines

The Murfatlar vineyards make full-bodied reds from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Noir, and sweet late-harvest whites. The Black Sea moderates the climate, and rainfall is low.
