Where it is

The Moldavian Hills (Dealurile Moldovei) cover the east of Romania, between the Carpathians and the Prut river on the Moldovan border. The areas include Cotnari, Iași, Huși, Panciu and Odobești.

History

Cotnari was well known for sweet wines in the Middle Ages and later, when it was made for Moldavian rulers.

Grapes and wines

Whites include Grasă de Cotnari, Fetească Albă, Fetească Regală and Tămâioasă Românească. Cotnari makes sweet and dry wines, and Panciu is known for sparkling wine. The region is large, and wines range from simple to refined.
