Where it is

Yunnan is in south-west China. The best-known vineyards are in the Shangri-La area, in the Mekong valley near Tibet, at roughly 2,000 to 2,600 m. Others are around Mile.

History

French missionaries brought the Rose Honey grape into the Mekong valley in the 1800s, and it is still grown by Tibetan villages.

Grapes and wines

Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc are grown, and the high altitude gives strong sunlight and cool nights. Production is small.
