Why it matters
Hong Kong does not make wine commercially, but since 2008 it has charged no duty on wine, and it has become a hub for storage, trade and auctions in Asia.
Where it is
Hong Kong is on the south coast of China, at the mouth of the Pearl River. Its subtropical climate is too hot and humid for vines.
Wine in the city
Imports come largely from France, Australia and Italy. Wine is sold in shops, restaurants and at auction, and the city has a large number of wine merchants.
