Where it is

Shaanxi is in north-central China, with Xi'an as its capital. Wine is made in the Wei River valley, and in the Yangling area, where a university has an agricultural and wine research centre.

History

Xi'an was the starting point of the Silk Road, and records of grape wine in China go back more than two thousand years to the Han dynasty.

Grapes and wines

Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay are the main grapes. Wine production here is smaller than in Ningxia or Shandong.
