Where it is

Duna (Danube) covers the sandy plain of central Hungary, south of Budapest. Its districts are Hajós-Baja, Kunság and Csongrád.

Land and climate

A warm, dry climate, with sandy soils, which resisted phylloxera and were planted in the nineteenth century to stabilise the dunes.

Grapes and wines

Many of the wines are fresh and easy, and the area is a source of cheap bulk wine. Kadarka, a spicy local red, grows at Hajós-Baja, and aromatic whites such as Irsai Olivér and Cserszegi Fűszeres are common.
