Where it is

Victoria is in the south-east of Australia and has over 20 wine regions. The Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula and Geelong are near Melbourne; Heathcote, Grampians and Rutherglen are inland.

Land and climate

Cooler and more varied than the rest of mainland Australia, with coastal influences and highland sites.

Grapes and wines

Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are made in the Yarra Valley, on the Mornington Peninsula and in Geelong. Heathcote and the Grampians make Shiraz, including sparkling Shiraz. Rutherglen is known for fortified Muscat and Topaque, aged in barrels like sherry.
