Where it is

San Juan lies north of Mendoza in the Andean foothills. The Tulum Valley is the main wine area, with other vineyards in the Pedernal and Ullum valleys.

Land and climate

Hotter and drier than Mendoza, with low rainfall and irrigated vineyards in the river valleys.

Grapes and wines

Syrah does well here, as do Bonarda and Malbec. Much of the province's grape harvest goes into table grapes, raisins and concentrate, although quality wine is increasing.
